Mangaluru: Private buses unlikely to start service before June 1

Mangaluru, May 19: A meeting of bus owners and RTO officials was held in Mangaluru on Tuesday May 19, over running of private buses. Bus owners present in the meeting put forth several demands and said that they will not be able to run buses till the end of May.

Further, they demanded waiving of six months’ tax and permit hiking in passenger ticket prices if they have to run buses after June. They said that they are doubtful of running the buses even after June if their demands are not met.

The bus owners said that more than a 1,000 buses running now will incur loss if the government does not look into their issues. Passenger transport in Mangaluru is likely to remain stagnant if government remains indifferent.

    Let them stop service. Right time for the govt to run the buses. Once people get used to lt nobody will prefer pvt buses. I think accidents could be reduced to great extent.

    As a student, I can say that all students are dependant on private buses rather than government buses. Most of the conductors agree to whatever money given by students even without checking it. Rush in the bus is due to the people who still climb knowing the bus is full. If people can climb in such situations because of delay they face then why should bus concerned people be blamed? During this time, we should support them and not condemn them. They too are suffering like most of the people here.

    This is not the time to blame. We all are going through difficult times. Many people who are dependant on these buses are jobless today. We don't know what they are going through. I wish the bus owners good luck and may their demands be fulfilled. And I hope these buses resume as soon as possible.

    Did the buse owner paid 3ctimes tax more when they carried 100 passengers before covid 19 . The rule was to carry sitting capacity of the bus but they made good profit how many owners ..suspended the drivers from duty who has been killed many two.wheelers and four wheelers in road accident by service and city buses ..Now all is well ...roads are free no more distribance better replace all private service by NURUM buses Mangalore public has to demand for this . They say all drivers and conductors will loose job let then get employed in KSRTC .....the same bus owner assosationn has put stay for for KSRTC and now they say they are in loss ., private bus drivers are driving are meant only for them so let them be at home only and find alternative ways to employ themselves

    The bus owners are only requesting a waiver of tax & insurance for 6 months.

    Due to the current situation as we need to consider :
    1 . Social Distancing
    2. Passenger Safety
    3. Our bus staff safety .

    We will not be able to board the bus with full capacity which means if earlier the bus was getting a capacity of 40 passengers per trip now we can only allow 20 of them per trip.

    We want to help our passengers but we are also are facing difficulty due to this Pandemic.

    Let us all hope and pray that this Pandemic ends and life gets back to normal.

    I do hope the Bus conductors and Drivers have mellowed down a bit and will display better manners .
    Also that they have given up Pan Guthka chewing and spitting all over the Roads.
    The Bus owners should take this oppurtunity of polishing some of these people.
    Their request to enhance Bus fares is understandable considering half occupancy,sanitising...etc etc..

    Govt busses may appear good due to low prices, but in reality they are far more expensive because of their heavy losses due to inefficiency and mismanagement, and those losses are paid by taxpayers. In addition we kill off one of our few successful industries in DK and Udupi.

    These bus owners are very shrewd. They want their tax should be waived for six months whereas they were off the road only for two months. They need permit to hike the tickets. Don't want to pay the tax but want to hike the tickets... Profits since so many years you all earned???? Passengers didn't get salary plus there's no hike in the salary.... First stop your nuisance of right power when the old/disabled/sick just step on the first step... Literally they have to swing and get inside the bus, when the bus is in motion... People of Mangalore don't protest so everything is done... Please start govt. buses...

    There should not be tax collection as they have not used the road.if they don't runbused then private routes can be nationalised.even Bangalore Mangalore route can be nationalised and more convenient trains to passangers to be introduced

    Looking at the present scenario, government has to support, by providing subsidies, to the private bus industry by lowering the price of diesel, road tax etc. Instead of increasing bus fares better request, Govt. to reduce diesel price. The sudden hike in bus fares will trigger public outrage and may lead to protests. Let the govt. reduce diesel price or waive tax. People cant share the burden and for the benefit of rural passengers, government should revise fares and give relief to the common man.

    Pvt buses better stay off the roads. The govt buses should take over. Pvt buses are a nuisance on the roads. They are not doing any service to the people, simply fleecing them.

    You don’t know the actual tax and fuel rate burden on the owners. Why would u run the show if its in negative. Almost every day fuel prices rise, but ticket price not in two years.. how fair is this system..

    In that case ; why are u forcing urself to run the busses?Let people start using their own vehicles and other modes available. As such now, due lockdown, its very peaceful on roads due busses not racing between each other and also there is no balring of horns and unsafe bus drivers on road.

    Yes we can understand your problems. Instead of increasing bus fares, better you put pressure on Govt. or Local MLA's to reduce diesel price. or to waive tax. In this tough time Government has to support, by providing subsidies, or by lowering the price of diesel. Increasing bus fair is not a solution and it is totally unfair.

    Hello bus owner why everyone is against PVT bus is because of overspeeding , reckless driving, rude driver & conductor attitude towards passengers, exceeding the passengers limit by over crowding.

    Pvt bus owners & their staff couldn't have little bit of decency towards passengers ?
    Really don't want you these buses on roads we all need KSRTC buses atleast better late than sorry.

    Those who have are using. There are several hundreds travelling from outside m lore for work esp ladies earning 10 to 15000 per month. All cannot afford daily petrol costs

    Do you have any idea at all how the bus transport business is run ??
    The fuel cost
    Driver, conductor, cleaner. Checker, time keeper, office bearers salaries.
    Taxes, insurance, toll gate charges.
    After spending for all above if anything left is for the owner to pay loan installments if the vehicle is on finance.
    Govt wants to implement social distancing as it is essential. Means, buses can carry only half the capacity. Then. What would be the collection? If overheads remain same, how to operate? With huge losses ?
    That's the reason they should get some relief:-
    *Exemptions on taxes for few months
    *Exemptions on toll charges for few months
    *Reduced fuel surcharges etc.

    so better option is let KSRTC take over better all the owners sell permits to NURUM a green bus introduced is nice and its a big relief for all the 2 wheeler & 4 wheeler, without private & city bus roads are free and it will benefit in avoiding so much accident , the number of accidents are very rarer in the absence of private bus , a big advantage to kudla people , without private service big metro cites like Bangalore is operating well with BMTC ,
    LET private buses go off from kudla roads , forever
