Mangaluru/Udupi, May 18: On the 55th day of the lockdown, two new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada (DK), while one new case was detected in Udupi on Monday May 18. One patient has cured and been discharged in DK.
As reported earlier, the two new patients are 30-year-old male and a 55-year-old female. The man, a resident of Karopady in Bantwal, had returned from Raigad in Maharashtra and is under quarantine. The woman, a resident of Yeyyadi, had fever and hence visited Wenlock hospital for test. She was diagnosed to have Severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) symptoms and later tested positive. She has been shifted to ICU.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 41,347 people have been screened so far, including 51 on Monday. As many as 33 people are currently admitted in NIT-K Suratkal quarantine facility. Another nine are currently quarantined in ESI hospital.
As many 6,073 people have completed 28 days of quarantine.
A total of 5,151 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 4,968 tested negative, and 54 positive, out of which 32 are currently active. As many as 17 persons have recovered and been discharged, and five deaths have occurred so far. P-578, a resident of Bantwal Kasaba who recovered was discharged on Monday.
Out of the 54 positive cases, 48 are from Dakshina Kannada and six patients are from other districts.
As many as 98 samples were sent for testing on Monday. Reports of 81 samples were received on Monday, two of which tested positive.
Reports of 129 samples are awaited. As many as seven persons have been admitted for observation.
A total of 3,489 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Monday, nine cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.
A total of 20,382 migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Jharkhand have been sent home by special Shramik trains.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 3,251 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 45 on Monday, and a total of 3,993 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 144 on Monday. As many as 511 persons are currently in home quarantine.
Altogether, 43 high-risk persons and 4 low-risk persons are under hospital quarantine. A total of 82 people are in isolation wards, including 15 fresh admissions on Monday. Among them, six are coronavirus suspect, while five have SARI and four influenza-like illness.
As many as 523 people, including 17 on Monday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 2,470 samples have been collected so far, including 269 on Monday, among whom two are coronavirus contacts. Out of them, 1,918 samples have turned out to be negative, and 542 reports are awaited. Eleven confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including a 54-year-old person who died of heart attack on May 16. Three have recovered, and seven are active.
