Udupi, May 16: The district has reported a death due to coronavirus. The deceased is a 54-year-old man who had arrived from Maharashtra on May 5. He was undergoing quarantine in Kundapur. He was admitted to KMC Manipal on May 13. He died on May 14 after he suffered a heart attack.
As a suspected coronavirus case, the patient's swab sample was sent for testing. The report result came as positive on Saturday, May 16. He was undergoing treatment in isolation as he was suffering some respiratory issues as well.
“Some staff who were in contact with the patient during treatment are put under quarantine. Necessary precautionary measures have been undertaken in the hospital. The emergency department will remain open and the OPD facility will also be open from 8:30 am to 1pm as usual,” said Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, KMC Manipal.
Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said, “Five members who travelled with the deceased are quarantined. Three staff of KMC Manipal had come in contact with him without safety measures. Doctors had taken precautionary measures while operating the patient.
“In Kundapur, the hospital staff had treated the patient with safety measures. As many as 57 members are identified as primary contacts of the deceased, who were quarantined in Kundapur in a hall. Thirty-eight people are secondary contacts. Order has been issued to conduct cremation according to COVID protocol,” he said.
