Mangaluru: 80-year-old woman passes away due to coronavirus, fifth death in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, May 14: Dakshina Kannada on Thursday, May 14, recorded its fifth death due to novel coronavirus.

The victim, a woman, identified by number P-507, was an 80-year-old resident of Kulshekar. She was shifted to ventilator and was said to be in serious condition from the past few days.

It may be recalled, the 80-year-old woman and her 45-year old son, who were admitted as inpatients at First Neuro hospital at Padil in the city had tested positive for coronavirus on April 27.

Out of 34 positive cases in Dakshina Kannada, and 14 are currently active. As many as 15 persons have recovered and been discharged, and five deaths have occurred so far.

    One more death in D.K. There are plenty of cases in Kerala and even in Mysore, patients above 58 with some medical problems are recovered and sent home. Why its not becoming possible in D.K. ? Concerned authority and ministers should look into this fact and if need be the best doctors and nurses should be appointed immediately to save the people of D.K.

    I can see many people due to ease in lockdown roaming without any fear. REally disugusting to see the carelesness . Concerned authorities strive hard to control the situation. Really srtict action should be taken on habitual offenders

    death toll in mangalore is more. should take care of patients carefully & efficiently. more dan 84 years of aged patients have survived in corona virus. y not 80 years should not survive. needs more care.

    We do not know if she had any existing medical conditions and what they were. An 84 old person with no previous health conditions may survive whereas even a 24 year old with an already existing severe medical condition may die. Age is just a number.

    Most of the recent cases are people who were taking treatment in first neuro.. these patients already suffer from serious health problems related to the nervous system..and more over they are aged.
    This might make it difficult for them to respond to treatments...
    Probably the cause of recent deaths..

    The risk of dying due to the virus is more for people with additional health conditions like diabetes, cancer etc. So a 40 year old person with cancer has a less chance of surviving than a 70 year old healthy person with no health conditions.

    With foreign returnees back, we can only hope for the best for their health, expect discipline in terms of quarantine rules and expect a corona free DK by end of May / June 2020
