Bengaluru: CM’s new financial package may help fruits, vegetable cultivators

Bengaluru, May 13: There is information about the likelihood of the chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, announcing a special package which may be around Rs 500 crore. It is said that he plans to assist fruits and vegetable growers through this package.

Under this package, it is said, compensation would be decided on the basis of fruits and vegetables which went waste without being putting to use. The amount would be decided on the basis of acreage under cultivation and type of fruits or vegetables grown. Sources also say that there is a proposal to disburse Rs 3,000 each to priests, blacksmiths, and members of Savita Samaj engaged in playing musical instruments, and potters. It is said that preparations for the same are ready.

In the recent past, the state government had come out with a package for weavers. Many were deprived of the package as only a few got benefit out of it. The state has two lac weavers and four lac poor weavers who work on power looms. Political parties had criticized the government for coming to the aid of only about ten percent of the weavers in state and leaving the rest high and dry.

    Very meaningless "package".

    Many advanced countries have tried to lift the demand-side - by helping people to buy things.

    The Indian Government (and this package) is all about supply-side.

    To lift the country/state out of economic woes, the demand-side needs to be fixed first.
