Mangaluru/Udupi, May 3: No fresh cases of coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Sunday May 3, the 40th day of the nation-wide lockdown.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 40,157 people have been screened so far, including 70 on Sunday. Eight new admissions have been made at NIT-K Suratkal quarantine facility, taking the total to 68. Another 40 people are currently quarantined in ESI hospital.
As many 6,073 people have completed 28 days of quarantine.
A total of 3,655 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 3,278 samples have been received. Out of these, 3,254 have tested negative, 24 positive, and 9 are currently active. Twelve persons have recovered and been discharged, three deaths have occured so far.
Out of the 24 positive cases, 18 patients are of Dakshina Kannada, one each from Bhatkal and Udupi, and four from Kerala.
As many as 95 samples were sent for testing on Sunday. Reports of 114 samples were received on Sunday, all of which were negative.
Reports of 377 samples are awaited. As many as 16 persons have been admitted for observation.
A total of 2,243 people have been treated at fever clinics so far, and 395 screened via mobile clinics. On Sunday, seven cases of severe acute respiratory illness were reported.
The district administration has said that though the lockdown restrictions will be relaxed to some extent from May 4, people should take utmost care to protect themselves and others. Relaxation will not apply for the eight containment zones in the district. There will not be any public transportation like buses and trains during the next two weeks of the lockdown, and all educational institutions and religious places will remain closed. Places like malls, gyms, parks, swimming pools and others where people gather in large numbers will also remain closed.
Udupi
In Udupi, a total of 2,350 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 37 on Sunday, and a total of 3,186 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 68 on Sunday. As many as 466 persons are currently in home quarantine.
Altogether, 34 high-risk persons and 12 low-risk persons are under hospital quarantine, and one was discharged on Sunday. A total of 55 people are in isolation wards, including eight fresh admissions on Sunday. One among them, only one is coronavirus suspect, while others have SARI or influenza-like illness.
As many as 359 people, including three on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 1,194 samples have been collected so far, including 17 on Sunday, among whom seven are coronavirus suspects. Out of them, 1,124 samples have turned out to be negative, and 67 reports are awaited. Three people who had tested positive earlier have all recovered and been sent home.
