Exorbitant ticket prices - Rude shock for migrants who want to return home

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 2: Workers who have migrated from different states and districts in search of greener pastures have been stranded in various places without work due to lockdown rules. Since the last about six weeks they have no income, and find it hard to get one meal every day for self and family. The government has now made arrangements to send them back to their homes but the ticket prices are enough to scare them out of their wits.

Since Saturday morning, about 600 migrant workers have come together at the KSRTC bus stand at Majestic here. They are now allowed to travel to their home districts by the government. Everyone's health is checked and each one of them is allowed to board the buses after they undergo thermal screening.

In order to maintain social distance, every bus is now allowed to carry only 30 passengers. But KSRTC, perhaps to compensate or this loss, has almost doubled its fare. KSRTC also points out that when returning, the buses will run empty. The fare has been calculated on the basis of cost factor as per which trip to Bagalkot from here will cost Rs 1,311, Ballari Rs 884, Bidar Rs 1,984 and Belagavi Rs 1,478.

The workers are under compulsion to hurry back to their homes, and at the same time, they find it hard to feed the families. Now the bus fares have come as a bolt from the blue. There has been a demand to ferry the migrant workers to their home districts free of cost.

The workers are being transported to their homes from the city and other districts since the last three days through KSRTC buses. Yesterday, 860 workers travelled from here in 28 buses.

Maganbhai, thank God that the drunkards are investing heavily their "hard earned cash in boozing" thus providing nearly 20% of revenue to state govt; unlike big crooks like Mehulbhai, Niravbhai, & company whose 68,500 crores (whose money?) loan was written off by RBI recently!!

It is surprising or rather amusing that the Central and Karnataka State Governments which asked the traders and shop keepers not to resort to hoarding and profiteering during lockdown (and rightly so); is overcharging the migrants who are already living in penury. Kerala Government arranged five special trains for migrants to Orissa / Jharkhand / West Bengal and the Railways (Central Government) charged the State Government (not the migrants) the sleeper fare and an additional amount of Rs.50 per person. I think this is what the Centre meant by PM CARES fund. Both the Central and Karnataka Government are nothing but modern day Shylocks demanding their pound of flesh from the common man during these testing times. I am sure people will show them their right place when they are coming to them after 4 years saying “MIthrrrroonnnnn.......”

The Government of Karnataka fleecing the poor migrants when the oil prices have hit the rock bottom is very cruel and unjustified. By occupying the chair through the backdoor without knowing how to govern in an emergency situation exposes the Government of its incompetence in finding ways and means to generate funds. Its time that the lockdown is selectively lifted so that people get back to earn their livelihood. If required lessons could be learnt from the GOVERNMENT OF TAIWAN.

Good the migrant labour have been charged, but charging exorbitantly is wrong on the part of the Government. I really cannot understand on what basis are the migrant citizens tagged as migrant labour or stranded migrant labour. There are migrants who are visiting their home towns even when they are having a job. How are they allowed to travel?

Not all of them are poor! Most daily wagers demand 600 to 650 Rs plus transport per day! Skilled workers demand 900 to 1400 Rs per day! I do agree some of them are genuinely short of money! They are leaving while Udupi lock down is going to be relaxed.... Now most construction projects will suffer due to shortage of labors!

Why sending them to their Natives?? No food, Dist Admin is responsible for them being hungry. R their districts COVID Free??? Bidar, Bellary, Kalburgi, etc.. Watz goin on?? They local admin simply wants to wash their hands off. Govt will have to pay heavy price for doing this. Why cant they be made to understand thats it isnt safe to travel, provide food and make them stay where they are for another 1 month. Anyone listening??? If u provide bus, there will be travellers, stop d buses and provide food. Everything else including exorbitant price fare will subside.

Now the CM is asking Migrants to stay back !
Now if there is a graded exit and works are allowed where are the labourers ?
For Eg : DK people are used to Bagalkot and Bijapur work force these days.Never bend their back.
So this is the irony ! Utter chaos. No foresight or planning.
Clear Panic. However, this has to be once in a century phenomenon. Can't blame anybody ! Nobody knows what's happening and out of control !
Look at Trump.... Looks like the head of a Nomadic Tribe these days...
Look at Rahul...Talking to Raghu about God knows what.....and gets edited
    by own people..
All kinds of things happening ...
    Life Goes on...

Let the people who invest heavily on liquor consumption at least help those migrant people to reach there destination safely. No need to blame everytime on state government or central government. It's now duty of each and every citizen to come forward and help others. Reason for hike in prices is due to distancing more with one another in bus.

Those who invest heavily on liquor not because of people,it's because of the government putting 300% of taxes on it.So out of that government can help the poor.
