Lockdown: Officials warn of greater peril, advice against slackening rules

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 28: Senior officials who had analysed coronavirus situation based on data collected so far, have reportedly sent a warning to the state government about the catastrophe that could be let loose by the pandemic if lockdown rules are eased. On the basis of the way the disease has spread so far, they have projected that by May 6, the number of infected persons in Karnataka might cross 1,000 from the current 501.

The officials have calculated the speed at which the disease might gallop in different districts. As per their calculations, the proliferation of the disease will be high in Bengaluru, Vijayapura, Belagavi and Mysuru districts.

Out of the districts where infected people are found, the situation is under control in Kodagu and Chitradurga districts. They expect the same situation to continue. The officials do not expect chances of new infections being found in districts that are in green zone now. They have calculated that the 501 infected cases in Karnataka as on April 25 may go up to 1,086 in the next 12 days.

Based on the report, the government can take precautions in different districts by giving more attention to certain zones. As a precaution, they can prepare medical facilities required to handle so many cases.

Wherever infection cases are high automatically the number of people getting quarantined will soar. The report has pointed out that in spite of strict lockdown rules, the disease is able to spread its grip so much, and as such, expects the infection to go up steeply if people behave recklessly and do not maintain social distance once lockdown is lifted.

Towards providing plasma therapy to coronavirus patients, plasma from two donors was collected by Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute from two patients in Victoria Hospital on Monday. A team led by oncologist, Dr Vishal Rao, collected the plasma and said that treatment will begin once the patient is identified. He has asked the donors to volunteer to donate plasma as the result will be out within a week unlike about a month in other cases, as per the guidelines of Indian Medical Research Council.

It is skewed logic I have to mention again.
When food & groceries along with vegetables get transported across districts, people going from 6 to 12 in the morning & buying as well as travelling didn't spread the virus as fast as it was expected to, but if some more local shops & other essential service sector get opened then only greater peril comes into effect!
The way forward is not prolonging illogical lock down, but relaxation of other businesses & service sector shops allowing the same time given to these as well.
Sealing down for only suspected areas can be continued for a limited period of 15 days at the most is prudent.
India needs to explore the 21 countries which haven't imposed any lock down out of them 19 have no casualties, 2 - Sweden & Japan have 98 & 100 Plus at present which is the same number every year in winter they suffer in compromised immune people in last 5 years from Influenza Like Illnesses. Out of them 50% would have died even without any infection as they were at fag end of their diseases or ageing related diseases.

I had suggested plasma therapy in my letter (not email) to the residence of Hon. PM Shri Modi apart from 2 other possible treatments including chloroquine/HCQ., this was in mid February 2020 I had explained the mechanism of action ,dose, and when it should be given .In March I wrote similar emails to Trump(US), Boris(GB), Macron(FRANCE) the mail was in French and Bb(Israel), I got acknowledgements from all 4 the next day! Also ,plasma therapy was started next day in Houston and Israel.Thump placed an order for chloroquine from India within 48 hours. My letter in India went to the grievance cell!! and remained there for one month, I then wrote to the Principal secretary who refered it to an expert committee. First PT was given in Kerala ,then Delhi Ahmadabad, Mumbai and now in Bangalore. I see light at the end of the tunnel, Be Healthy Be Happy.

Dear Monty Dotor, what I read is that plasma therapy has not been approved by ICMR & FDA for treatment as yet! It can only be used for research purposes as they r not satisfied with it's outcome till date!

PT used so far in patients in various hospitals has given mixed results, mostly not encouraging!

I agree with you.All that I have suggested may or may not work.A double blind large trial is required before anything gets approval for treatment.CQ/HCQ works as an immunomodulatory and can be used in prevention As you are in Mumbai you will be the first to know if it works or not ,as it has been given on a mass scale in Dharavi. Apart from PT ,I have suggested something beyond PT but both will work only if given early or as a prophylactic.I am keeping my fingers crossed until something concrete comes up.Hope to hear the good news from you !!

There is no vaccine, no medication and there won't be any for quite some time to come. The only solution appears to be increased testing and to roap in the private sector medical facilities, are they only for making money, because till now they have done precious little.

Monty Dotor, have you heard about the antiparasitic drug "ivermectin", which has been found highly effective against Covid19 invitro:

    Highlights

Ivermectin is an inhibitor of the COVID-19 causative virus (SARS-CoV-2) in vitro.

A single treatment able to effect ~5000-fold reduction in virus at 48 h in cell culture.

Ivermectin is FDA-approved for parasitic infections, and therefore has a potential for repurposing.

Ivermectin is widely available, due to its inclusion on the WHO model list of essential medicines.

    Jai Hind!

I have only heard and read about it. I feel many anti - parasitic drugs might work in Corona and other viral infections.Apart from PT and CQ/HCQ the third medicine that I have suggested is also a anti-parasitic which has been used in India and abroad for years and has minimal side effects , Ivermectin is costly but the one that I had suggested was costing only 3 paisa per tablet, unfortunately after my suggestion the price has gone up 100 times, there was only one company at Ahmadabad that was manufacturing it now there are 2. The one at Hyderabad has recently exported tonnes of it to the US.

If you read the whole study there is a long list of other drugs which also inhibit sars cov 2 virus in lab trials on cells. Human trials however are a completely different case due to complexity involved.

I have observed that from the last 3 to 4 days people have started moving freely in the locality where I live in Bangalore like any other day
1)Social distancing is forgotten and no guidelines followed .
    2) People are walking and spitting on the roads ( Greater chances of virus spreading) .
3)The poor and children walking without footwear
    4) People move around freely for all the 24 hrs in Bangalore in residential localities . None of them were monitored about their movement.
5 ) Alcohol shortage in ones household must have led people to visit their friends house to consume alcohol as there was no restriction on veichular movement in residential areas
    6) No face mask wearing by public except a few
    7) Sanitizers are not made a compulsion in every standing shop
All this has only led to the rise in numbers of cases and the effort that was put by respectable citizens by living indoors will all go in vain

However , in Kerala , Mangalore and Udupi with limited hours to shop etc in the last 35 days, we can see the outcome that spread of this pandemic is limited and controlled

Plasma therapy has already been started in Mumbai; Seven Hills & Lilavati Hospitals!

A 52 year old critical patient is under treatment with PT presently in Lilavati, but no much improvement seems to have been found so far, he has been turned to prone position as per latest reports!
