Mangaluru: Minister restrains entry of other states' fish trucks into district

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 27: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, has instructed deputy commissioner of the district to immediately restrict entry of trucks carrying fish loads from other states from entering Dakshina Kannada district.

He has cited the issues of maintaining social distance in Mangaluru markets and the more serious issue of spread of coronavirus pandemic.

Kota Srinivas Poojary

It may be recalled that media had drawn the attention of the minister to the crowds jostling for space at the fish market at Bunder here, and violation of rules relating to wearing of masks, maintaining social distance etc at the market, duly expressing the concern that the market can turn out to be the ground for large scale spread of coronavirus infection.

I wonder where all the fresh fish from Malpe goes. While Mangalore is getting the freshest fishes, all the fishes coming to Malpe simply disappears and we get to eat frozen old stock.

What we need at the moment is not ban....more than we eating fish, its the matter of livelihood of many fisherman and one who sell it....they rely on daily income. Moreover, vegetables are also traded like this only...Banning is ultimate solution. What is needed is social distancing with the help of police.

Sir, fishermen from other states are entering Karnataka water, capturing fish and exporting them to Karnataka. That is why this ban.

You are correct the minister should address social distancing issue also.

Rudolph, this is not the question of local fishing. Problem of mass gathering. Not maintaining social distance and buyers gather without the precautionary measures. As, Ramadan is going on, auctions and all done at night and the following day, fish will be sold to the people according to the news. ...its really a big problem.... Other than ban of the trucks, no other option...
