Mandya: Civic worker engaged in spraying disinfectant dies suddenly

Mandya, Apr 23: As per reports, a civic worker became sick while spraying disinfectant chemicals in villages around Kalkuni gram panchayat in Malavalli taluk on Tuesday, April 21. The worker died soon after.

The deceased was Basavaraju (45), a D group employee of Kalkuni gram panchayat. The health department had taken up the work of spraying disinfectant liquid in villages to stop the spread of coronavirus. Basavaraju was engaged as an assistant to the sprayers, a guide to show streets and lanes.

It is said that Basavaraju also mixed the compounds meant for making the disinfectant besides spraying it himself. On Tuesday, when working, he suddenly collapsed and become very sick. He was admitted into Mandya district hospital but he died later after failing to respond to the treatment.

It is suspected that Basavaraju would have died because of the side effects of the disinfectants he sprayed. Postmortem report is expected to throw light on the cause. His family members have stated that Basavaraju died on account of the chemicals he was spraying.

A case in this connection was registered in Kirugavalu police station. The villagers have sought disbursement of suitable compensation to the family members of the deceased.
