Bantwal, Apr 9: At the Peruvai Vyavasaya Sahakari Sangha building, under the facade of a lockdown, a grocery store was carrying out business as usual in Vittal on Thursday April 9. But, the public grew concerned as the grocery store was indulged in trade without getting the permission from gram panchayat. After complaints were registered by the locals, the panchayat development officer ordered shutting down of the grocery shop.
There is already a ration shop at the Peruvai Vyavasaya Sahakari Sangha building and beside that, there is a pipe shop. A grocery shop emerged in that same pipe shop and began to sell grocery to the locals without obtaining a license or permission from the local gram panchayat. Reportedly, several villagers come and buy groceries at the shop.
When enquired, the shop owners claimed that they had permission to run the grocery shop. However, they did not produce any document or proof, instead, produced a letter from Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) for the retail trade.
Based on the complaint by the locals, the panchayat development officer visited the spot and discovered that the shop has not sought any permission. Following this, the officials warned the shop owners of consequences and shut down the shop. Speaking to the media, he clarified that the shop owners did not possess any permission from the gram panchayat to conduct their business.
There were even questioned by a few journalists about the irregularities, but the shopkeepers protested against the journalists who questioned them.
