Bengaluru, Apr 3: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has extended support to the Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and expressed his distress over the decision taken by the Karnataka government in sealing the borders.
The JD(S) national president assured the Kerala government that he would take the matter up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gowda in a letter to Vijayan said, "The inhuman and inappropriate action on the part of the authorities of Karnataka state to block the interstate highway between Mangaluru and Kasargod has brought me pain and anguish."

On March 31, Gowda had also written a letter to the Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa appealing him to remove the restrictions imposed on the borders on 'humanitarian' grounds. Prior to writing to the chief minister, Gowda received letters from Kerala Water Resource Minister and JD(S) legislator K Krishnankutty from Chittur. JD(S) is a coalition associate of the present government in Kerala.
Despite the assurance bestowed by the High Court, the Karnataka government has turned a deaf ear, Gowda wrote in his letter and condemned the adamant attitude of the BJP led government in the state.
He also affirmed to take up the matter to the centre and ensured the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to Kerala.
