Rahul Gandhi tweets video of massive migrants gathered in New Delhi

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 28: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi came down heavily on the Centre for failing to prepare for the contingency caused due to coronavirus lockdown.

Gandhi shared a video of the mass exodus of the migrant workers on Saturday on his Twitter handle. “Out of work & facing an uncertain future, millions of our brothers & sisters across India are struggling to find their way back home. It’s shameful that we’ve allowed any Indian citizen to be treated this way & that the Govt had no contingency plans in place for this exodus,” he said in a tweet accompanying the video.

The video shows massive crowd of migrant workers gathered at Delhi-UP border at a time when there is a need to maintain social distance.

The Delhi and UP governments are trying to bring the situation to control and have announced special buses to reach migrant workers to their destinations. Measures such as providing food through community kitchens, rent free accommodation, night shelters have been taken up to aid migrant labourers.

The mass exodus began after 21-day lockdown was announced. Many migrant workers have started walking towards their homes, which are in others states and districts. With social distancing, safety and hygiene protocols not being followed by the labourers, the purpose for the lockdown is being defeated.

It not time to blame anyone.
But PM should given complete responsibility to State Government and given backup state government.
Also he should consulted high educated people to guide him.

Our Govt should bring more people from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and give them citizenship. This is the right time for bjp to accumulate vote bank. Where is our deshbhakt Amit shah hiding. No news from him since few days. May be he is busy in storing more food and money for future. These politicians have let us down and have left us to struggle to survive whereas they are leading 5 star life. shame on voters who select cheater / decoits and gaddars. Now you are suffering and these Netas are doing nothing except politics.

The announcement of the lockdown was similar to the demonetisation announcement devoid of any forethought on the consequences. It appears that the GOI was trying to score browny points and cheap thrills which the WHO was eagerly giving. It's sad that the poorest of the poor are hit the hardest. The exodus will definitely aggravate the COVID 19 affected numbers. At least now the Police and District Administration should step in and reach the people to their destination. No one would like to suffer a pandemic in a strange place with none to care for them.

Very traumatic for these migrants. They feel marna hai toh apne gaon mein. Social distancing is a privilege all cannot afford. Lockdown is a siutation all cannot take head on, there r a lot of people who live on their shoe strings, and having all essentials is a luxury. Hope they reach safe and healthy. Lets pray.

I believe the government should have planned it better ... The steps taken by the government is good... But the planning and the execution is really poor... Just like demonetization.... They should have planned it better... I really feel bad for those people .... With the sudden turn of events they have become refugees in their own country....I still support the government for the lockdown but they should have informed people prior.... Anyways Nothing can be done now . Only thing is support the government and be united in fighting this battle. ...Hope they take more planned steps in future....

Rahul Gandhi does not have to share the video as one can watch such videos in news channels. Yes, I agree that Modi should have given enough notice for the people to return to their homes or stay put where there are. The poor migrants who went away seeking their livlihood is suffering a lot. The greedy transporters too are looting them by charging 3 to 4 times more than the actual fare.
The government is doing a great job, however the situation is completely out of control. Instead of blaming the government, the Opposition Parties such as Congress should send their workers to help those poor people. The need of the hour is fighting the Coronavirus unitedly, not playing dirty politics.

In my opinion, Present Govt. would have consulted all opposition team / leaders first & come up together with constructive plan to mitigate this risk / issue.

And also, joint conference by PM, HM, FM & Opposition leaders asking support from the public for their co-operation.

    People,

In hindsight perhaps Modiji should have given 48 hours notice before starting stoppage of Vehicle movement...to avoid this large group of migratory labor travelling on Foot...like during partition of India in 1947...then perhaps CORVID-19 infection would have reached to the level of Italy, Spain and US...

So its tight rope walk for Modiji....he is blamed either way...I think he did his best within his limitation....HISTORY will judge him...

    ...Tak...Takk...

Implementation of any big change is difficult in India. It has to be in phases. Yet even after latest fasttag fiasco the govt still doesn't learn this basic lesson and keeps repeating. Bureaucrats say yes sir to everything.

Oh, for Modiji, overnight change gives immense pleasure. It started from DeMo and then continued with RBI/CBI heades change, Art.370, all are taken without taking approval of any third person.

Therefore, best that we all gulp this down, us sitting in the comforts of our homes as well as the homeless labourers.

Empathy is not applicable to the PM, he is too thick skinned than us emotional citizens.

In Italy, lockdown news got leaked by media, around half day before it was announced.

Students, labourers, workers from Northern Italy, which affected by corona virus immediately went to railway station & used other modes of transport get out of Northern Italy.

Corona virus spread across Italy after than & we know, how every day people are dying in Italy.
If 48 hours notice given corona virus would have spread to villages across India.

Either death of 2 lakh people minimum or sudden lockdown. Choice is easy. Sudden lockdown in night with just 4 hour notice.

Whose stupidity?? Is the lock-down their fault? Where else will they go, stay on the streets, get beaten up or robbed? They don't have a place to stay, no food to eat.. did anyone think of that? At least they die in their own homes. Very easy for you to talk from under your roof with your stomach full.
