Madikeri, Mar 19: Aneesh Joy Kanmani, deputy commissioner of Kodagu district held a press conference and said that health emergency is declared in the district in the wake of a 35-year-old person turning positive for coronavirus.
Speaking to the press, Aneesh said, "The person who has turned positive for coronovirus swab test is of Kodangeri origin of Madikeri taluk. The test report confirmed the same. The district administration is ready to face coronavirus epidemic in the district and also to create awareness among the public.
"100 bed isolated ward and 150 bed quarantine ward is ready in Kodagu Medical college. The health condition of the person who has reported positive is stable at present. As a precaution section 144 is declared in the district.
"Resorts, hotels and homestays should cancel their booking and should not take any new bookings. A special team is formed at district level to contain the epidemic. Except religious programme, no other functions are allowed to be held. A meeting of religious leaders will be held on Thursday or Friday.
"Schools, colleges, nursery, gyms, swimming pools, ground and tuition centres are ordered to be closed. Any kind of market and weekly gatherings are completely forbidden. Checkposts are opened in the district borders and strict checking is being done.
"Except medical and grocery please close down all the other establishments and cooperate with the administration. Private companies should ask people to work from home. Government offices will be open throughout. No holidays are approved for government employees. Only those government officials who are pregnant and suffering from health issues can take off,” she said.
