Karwar, Jan 15: The fishermen continued with their protest against the extension of the commercial port here under the ambitious 'Sagarmala' project on Tuesday January 14.

The fisher folk were livid at the fact that MP Ananth Kumar Hegde, and MLA Roopali Naik, were not supporting their agitation. Their anger was further compounded by the failure of the MP and MLA to meet them for a dialogue on the issue. They therefore splashed dung at the pictures of these two leaders.

The fishermen then crowded in front of the office of the deputy commissioner. They defaced the pictures of Hegde and Roopali Naik. When some BJP leads came to the spot of protest, they took the BJP activists to task and criticized the people's representatives and the government for implementing Sagarmala project. The BJP leaders said that they are facing predicament as Roopali Naik, who was in the constituency, did not come to talk to the people. The people urged the activists to shelve Sagarmala project and save the only seashore that is available in the town.
