Mangaluru, Dec 10: Anand G, Dakshina Kannada district BJP vice president, breathed his last late night on Monday, December 9. He was 67.
Anand was known as the grandsire of BJP in Bantwal taluk. He was the president of Bantwal Agricultural Service Cooperative Bank and was fondly called as 'Anandanna' by the party workers.
Anand, who completed his primary education, was a tailor by profession. He had been a sincere worker of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his younger days, and was always inspired to serve the country. He used to move in his Lamby scooter from house to house for organizing the party. He visited almost every house from Kakyapadavu near Bantwal to Neermarga, Gurpur, for this work.
He was elected twice as Bantwal municipal councillor and worked as president of Bantwal unit of BJP. He became president of Bantwal Agricultural Service Cooperative Bank thrice. During his tenure, the bank acquired own land and constructed new building, which is set to be inaugurated soon.
Anand was close to national leaders of the BJP like A B Vajpayee, L K Advani, Ananth Kumar, Yediyurappa and others. He respected every party workers, and had no blot in his political career.
He had served the party in various positions and was active in cooperative sector. It is learnt that he was suffering from heart-related ailments since the last some years. During the period Padayatra was organized in 2014 under the leadership of Rajesh Naik, Anand G, who was the party president, walked with Naik to 59 villages and covered over 400 km by foot, being staying in different villages on the way.
Party functionaries and dignitaries have mourned his demise. He is survived by wife Sharada, a son, and a daughter. Out of his two sons, one had recently lost his life in an accident.
