Mangaluru: CODP undertakes training in cloth bag making

Mangaluru, Nov 25: Cloth bags have become a popular alternative to plastic bags which are non-biodegradable and paper shopping bags which cannot be reused for long. Cloth bags are capable of carrying more things, made of biodegradable material, do not pollute the environment and can be reused for a long time.

A month’s training in cloth bag making was recently inaugurated at CODP here. The course was organized by CODP® Mangaluru in collaboration with CEI, Italy. Fr Oswald Monteiro, director of CODP welcomed the trainees and delivered the keynote address. Joseph K P, the tailoring instructor, explained in brief regarding cloth bags; the requirements, dimensions and how to go about it.

Lenet Gonsalves, programme manager of CODP, explained the importance of using cloth bags and their eco-friendly nature. She also explained how best one can manage existing plastic waste by building bottle brick benches and other similar structures.

Fr Vincent D'Souza, designate director of CODP, thanked the trainees for enrolling in the course and wished all of them success in their endeavor. Kala Girish, animator in CODP, compered the programme. 13 women registered in the tailoring course.
