Udupi, Oct 5: In association with the management and staff council, a farewell ceremony was organized for Harry J Castelino, library staff and Prof Melwin C Rego, dean of Humanities as well as HOD of Sociology, Milagres College Kallianpur on September 30.
Dr Vincent Alva, principal, Milagres College welcomed the gathering. In his welcome speech, he said, “Harry Castelino as a library staff and Prof Melwin Rego as an HOD of Sociology had led their field/ department to a great height”.
Xavior Fernandes expressed his appreciation for Harry on behalf of the staff. He said, “Castelino was sincere and dedicated in his work. He performed every work assigned to him promptly. Harry Castelino has served this Milagres College for 34 years as a librarian and won the heart of everyone.” Amrutha, librarian, PG centre, read the letter of appreciation. On receiving the felicitation, Castelino thanked everyone who supported and encouraged him in his service.
Prof Melwin C Rego has been part of Milagres Institution as a dedicated teacher who rendered 35 years of service leading the department of Sociology to a greater height. He was also a teacher and a guide par excellence. Dr Jayaram Shettigar, HOD of History expressed his appreciation for Prof Melwin C Rego. He said, “Prof Rego has created history by taking the BA students on an educational excursion. He had arranged a tour for the final year BA students to Bengaluru by flight. Students had a unique experience. This academic year he organized an education tour for the final BA students to Chennai by train. Expenses of these two tours were borne by him. He helped many needy students financially. “His students will always remember him for the knowledge he imparted and the love he extended to them," he added.
James of final BA expressed his gratitude to Prof Melwin Rego. Staff secretary, Dr Surekha Bhat read the Letter of Appreciation. After the felicitation, by the dignitaries, staff, retired staff and students, Prof Melwin Rego thanked the management, former and present principals and all the concerned for their support.
Fr Vincent R Crasta, secretary of CESU, presided over the programme. In his presidential address, he wished both the staff members success, good health and a happy, peaceful retired life.
Correspondent of Milagres institution, Fr Dr Lawrence C D’Souza, president of the alumni association, Salvodar Naronha, president of PTA, Jyothi, staff secretary, Dr Surekha Bhat, directors of SWC, Dr Herald Monis and Chandrika, president of SWC, Sherwin Olivera, secretary of SWC, Surakshitha were present on the dais.
Prof Annamma, from the department of Economics, compered the programme. Reshama from the dept of History proposed the vote of thanks. Retired staff members, retired principals, PTA members, staff and students were present on the occasion.
