Kundapur, Sep 20: Cash and gold ornaments were stolen from the residence of Hadali Gudibettu Jayaram Shetty of Amparu village in broad daylight on Thursday, September 19.

Jayaram Shetty and his wife live in a house by the side of the road at Gudibettu. They also run a provisions store next to the house. Shetty's wife, Jayanthi, usually runs the shop. Jayaram Shetty is employed in a factory located at Mullugudde nearby.

Jayanthi had locked the house and shop at around 10.30 am on Thursday to visit Amparu Agricultural Service Society. On her return at 12 pm, she noticed the theft.

The thieves had opened the rear doors of the house by breaking open the bolts. They sifted through the almirah inside the house and also the provision store. They took away Rs 6,000 cash found in the shop apart from two golden rings kept in the almirah.

It is said that a youth wearing a red T-shirt who came there in a red colour scooter had questioned the locals about the whereabouts of the family and at what time they will come back. Therefore, the needle of suspicion has turned towards this unidentified youth.

The police visited the spot and undertook the investigation. MLA, B M Sukumar Shetty, also visited the family. The people find similarities in the theft committed from the residence of Kanadi Shankar Acharya near Goliangady town on September 16 in which gold and cash were stolen. Therefore it is suspected that both the thefts were the handiwork of the same gang.
