Mangalore, Jul 14: In an incident of theft that occurred in broad daylight, thieves entered a house in Bovikkana, located near Muliyar panchayat office on Monday July 13 and took away gold ornaments worth nearly eight lac rupees.
There was no one at home when the thieves gained entry into the house of Ramesh, working in the Gulf region. 73 sovereigns of gold, valued at Rs 7.98 lac, was stolen. Ramesh's wife Saroja works as a teacher and her children were in school, when the thieves struck. The thieves entered the house by opening the door of the kitchen located at the back.
When Saroja found on her visit home in the afternoon, that the rear door was open and gold ornaments had gone missing. She immediately complained to Adoor police station. The theft occurred between 10 am and 1 pm. It may be recalled, that some time back, thieves had taken away gold ornaments worth Rs 4.5 crore from North Malbar Grameena Bank in Periya near here. The thieves seem to be posing challenges to the policemen to prove their mettle, through regular thefts.
