Mangalore, Jul 13: The personnel of the mobile squad of the forest department arrested three persons and seized three tiger pelts they were carrying, from Tenkila in Puttur on Sunday July 12.
They have been identified as Abubakker (31) from Eshwaramangala, Umesh (22) from Citigudde and Vinod (21) from Menala village.
The value of the pelts so seized, in the international market, is said to be in the order of Rs 20 lac. In a sudden operation, the policemen arrested the accused when they were travelling towards Puttur By Pass for selling the pelts, from Eshwaramangala in an auto rickshaw at around 7 pm on Sunday. Out of the confiscated pelts, one is of royal tiger.
Under the guidance of the forest wing deputy inspector general Narayan Gowda and special forest mobile squad superintendent of police R Krishnuamurty, police sub inspector Navinchandra Jogi and other staff participated in the operation.
