Mangalore, Jul 13: Most of the regions in the coast and some places in southern and northern hinterlands got intermittent rains on Sunday July 12. Kollur got 15 cms of rain, the highest in the state. However, there were enough gaps between rains to enable the people to venture out for shopping, enjoying the week end and attend auspicious occasions. With the reduction in rainfall, temperature has soared.
Mulky received 8 cms of rain, Subrahmanya got 6 cms, and the city got 5 cms. Kundapur recorded 6 cms of rainfall. Even though the intensity of rain has come down, the rainfall received is sufficient to support agricultural activity. There were good rains on the nights of Saturday and Sunday at various places.
A wall of a class room in Vivekananda higher primary school in Achlady in Kundapur taluk collapsed on Sunday night. As it was a holiday, nobody was injured. The house of Helen D'Souza in Kody in Udupi district also collapsed, inflicting a loss of around one lac rupees on the family.
