Kundapur, Jul 9: The government's ambitious project, '108 ambulance service' that is meant to cater to emergencies, witnessed for the first time in the district, a delivery inside the vehicle on the night of Monday July 6. The incident came to light late.
Nagaratna from Gangebail in Kirimanjeshwar Koderi near Byndoor, who was suffering from labour pain, was being transported by a 108 ambulance stationed at Kirimanjeshwar primary health centre, to the hospital. As the vehicle approached Byndoor, the labour pain intensified at around 11.50 pm. Seeing this, paramedics Raghu and Venkatesh, who were in the ambulance, stopped the vehicle and assisted the woman in having a normal delivery.
As both the mother and the child remained stable and healthy after the delivery, they were taken back home by the ambulance staff. The ambulance service, which functions from Udupi, Kirimanjeshwar, Ajekar and Kaup, has been provided with well-equipped vehicles that are provided on call to the needy people free of cost.
