Udupi, Aug 18: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district Hepsiba Rani Korlapati has advised the public to be alert against the contagious diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Chickengunya and brain fever that spreads through mosquitoes, which breed mainly during the rainy season.
"Incidents of Malaria have reduced drastically in the district in the last seven years. In 2012, more than 2,000 cases were reported. Presently, in the year 2019, only 53 cases are registered. In 2018, 228 Dengue cases were reported in the whole year. Till July 2018, 150 cases were reported, the corresponding figure for 2019 is 99. The situation is under control," said DC Hepsiba.
The DC further said, "In the month of July, the breeding of mosquitoes was rampant due to the stagnant water in more than 1,800 boats that anchored at Malpe port, in addition to the water collection in the dry fish tanks. In July, 15 cases of Malaria were reported. Control over Malaria is established by taking corrective action."
Though the Malaria and Dengue is under control in the district, people who go to places like Bengaluru and Mangaluru for work, return with the symptoms of the these diseases. Instructions are given to monitor such cases and prevent them from escalating. In order to trace the spots of mosquito breeding in the city limits of Udupi, 'Udupi Help App' is developed.
In a publication, DC said, "Contagious diseases that spread through mosquitoes are under control. There is no need for the public to panic. If any symptoms of fever or other contagious disease is felt by someone, they should immediately seek medical help in the nearby government hospital. Test kits, medicine and necessary equipment, in sufficient quantities is kept as stock in the health department."
