Mangaluru, Jul 29: St Ann’s Teacher Training Institute, Mangaluru, in association with Horticulture Department and Girija Charitable Trust, celebrated Vanamahotsava here at the institution on July 27, 2019.

The programme began with a prayer and lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Janaki, secretary of Agriculture Department, Mangaluru; Reshel, subject matter specialist of Horticulture Department; S S Nayak, honorary president of Girija Charitable Trust; Suresh Shenoy, manager; Ranjan Shetty, member of the Trust and Sr M Shubha A C, principal, St Ann’s Teacher Training Institute were present for the programme.

Addressing the teacher trainees, S S Nayak said that the Trust’s main aim is to make Mangaluru city bloom. He called upon student teachers to build strong will power as educators, in addition to bringing awareness and concern towards nature among students. He also said that benevolence is better than an unorganized democracy.

In her address to the students, Janaki, secretary of Horticulture Department, asked for developing deep concern and love for the nature. Ranjan Shetty encouraged and invited the teacher trainees to enroll themselves as members in the Trust. Reshel D’Souza presented various ways of making terrace and kitchen garden. Over 50 fruit bearing plants as well as other saplings were distributed to the trainees free of cost.

The programme ended by the audience voicing out environmental slogans. There were 15 members from the Trust. Ashwitha welcomed the gathering, Sr Renita compered the programme and Parvathi rendered the vote of thanks.
