Mangaluru, Jun 10: World Environment Day was observed at St Ann’s College of Education on Saturday June 8. The event began with a prayer service, where the gathering thanked God for the earth’s resources. It followed with seeking pardon for misusing these resources. Further, the prayer included asking for Lord's grace and strength towards sustainable development. For the inaugural, principal, Dr Sr Clare planted a sapling and watered it. She highlighted the message that one must nurture and care for Mother Earth.
The theme for the event was 'Beat Air Pollution'. The cultural activities performed, highlighted this theme. The event began with a song ‘Ye dharthi, Ye Nadiyan’ which spread the message about conservation and protection of nature's resources.
Following the song, a dance on the theme was also performed. It depicted the beauty of environment and it pointed at the need to preserve it.
The principal, Dr Sr Clare in her message to staff and students emphasized that we are co-creators with God. She stressed that we have a responsibility towards Mother Earth and urged that we need to take care of the environment. She insisted on everyone having a vision for a sustainable development. The students were then directed to sketch out an action plan to save Mother Earth.
Sr Zeena was the coordinator of the event. Lavanya, a BEd student, compered the whole event.
The event saw a full attendance of the staff and students.
