Mangaluru, May 20: Vedavyasa Kamath, MLA of Managluru South legislative constituency has accused the district-in-charge minister U T Khader and the state government have completely failed in resolving the water crisis faced by the people of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district.
Speaking to the media in the city, Kamath said, "The people of the district are facing crisis of water that was not seen in the past. The BJP party, MPs and the people of the district have already staged various protests against the Yettinahole project that is taken up by the state government which is causing difficulties to the people of DK. However, the state government has not taken these protests into consideration and has already spent thousands of crores and started the project. Injustice is meted out to the people of DK district. All the seven MLAs of BJP will fight on this issue in the coming session of the legislative assembly.
"We cannot say whether the state government will take back the project due to our protest. However, we will not allow the people of Dakshina Kannada district to face any hardships due to the project. Though there is such a huge issue of water in the district, minister U T Khader is involved in the election related work.
"The minister has not even directed the concerned officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to handle the water crisis in a proper manner. Khader is acting irresponsibly when it comes to the water crisis. State government has also not responded to the shortage of water faced by the people of the coastal districts."
