Udupi: PU student fails to clear Kannada paper, ends life

Udupi, Apr 16: In a tragic incident, a PU student from a private college in Udupi committed suicide here on Monday, April 15.

Prajna(18), a resident of Nadumane village in Hebri, the deceased person. She was a student of Brahmavara Board.

Disappointed after failing to clear the second year exam results, she ended life by hanging. She could not clear Kannada paper while she had scored above 60 in all other subjects. Her relatives from Bengaluru had told her about the result informing her that she could not clear Kannada paper.


Her mother and grand-mother were at home when she took the extreme step.

A case has been registered at Hebri police station.

    It is ineeded a sad news for a young girl to end her life because of marks. Parents of Prajna will definitely be in a state of shock after losing their child for results.While I, sympathise with the bereaved family and pay my respect to the departed soul. May ,I, humbly request the family to check for evaluation of the paper for benefit of doubt. If, the child could score in other subjects then it could be an error. Anyways it is a question of time for the family to decide whether to go for revaluation of the marks or no? May be we can avoid such sad endings. Parents of the child should be able to relate whether their child was really weak to fail? My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and let the soul of young Prajna rest in peace. Let the truth come out.

    Lorain Udipi Bharein I too agree with you and feel so sad.Newly there was something about kannada teachers were supposed to correct english papers.I am sure here too there was a grave mistake has happened.so still parents should undertake something which caused their childs suecide.when true sue the teachers.Feel very sad and my heartfelt sympathy to the parents and simply she lost her life .she could have appeared for the supplimentary exam.May her soul rest in Peace.

    Very sad news. - Many cases like this especially those who are studying in English Medium school children's have facing this issue. Kannada subjects is very difficult for them- but they are excellent in other subjects.

    People,

    I wont be surprised if marks were not counted properly and tabulated by evaluators...I have seen this before...in my time there was no revaluation and re- tabulations...72 are entered as 27...

    If in reevaluation she passes...than teacher who has done this should be jailed at least for a month for negligence, so all evaluators will be very careful while evaluating and tabulating ...moving forward...

    Timely support and counselling would have saved a precious life.The role of the parents and the teachers in preparing the teen minds to face challenges plays an important role.In this tragic case,both have failed.very sad indeed.

    Every year we see these unfortunate tragedies...Time has come to do something before it happens. Schools, parent teacher associations ,students appearing for board exams together must work towards assuring students that results are not the end of their world...There are hundreds of options for success in Life. Anyone listening??? for the next academic year at least..

    Clearly shows she ended her life not because she got less marks in kannada exam. Her relatives called her to inform about the result, merely to humiliate her and back home her parents might have compared her to others, poor small kids brain couldn't handle the situation and thought its end of the world. God will not leave your hand , he will always be with you , just be strong and divert your mind to something or the other. Don't take life seriously, brothers and sisters , everything is already scripted by god, just live, enjoy and go back where you came from. Everyone has to die one or the other day , no one is immortal here, just live and enjoy life. Sometimes situations are bad , sometimes it will be good thats life.
    PS: Try to avoid negative people, negative situation and mainly from those one who has done nothing in life advising you. (Normally, who has achieved something in life will never give bodhane to you, because they know the ups and downs of life). Also keep distance from those whom you don't like, mainly those who compares and weighs you to others).

    Never give up, Never lose hope.
    Always have faith, it allows you to cope.
    Trying times will pass, as they always do.
    Just have patience, your dreams will come true.
    So put on a smile and leave through your pain.
    Know it will pass and strength you will gain.

    God bless all.. Again don't take life seriously, you are not here permanently and also you are not supposed to end your precious life , which is given by god for some silly, reasons like this. You are unique, You are a gem. Just be strong whatever the situation be.

    Students of this era should learn from JDS...

    So what if 37 Assembly seats only in 2018 ...Kummy CM.

    In 1996 Deve Gowda with somewhere round 10 odd seats PM

    Now in 2019 contesting in 8 ...confident of winning none he is aspiring to be PM...

    And you end up giving up life for failing in a paltry exam...!!
    You never know with LIFE! It has so much to offer...

    Prajna scored more than 60 marks in all other subjects except Kannada paper..She could have requested for revaluation of Kannada Paper...Prajna took bad step of her life when she was in shock..We should not take a decision when we are in extremely Happy and Extremely sad mood..Both decisions most of the time put us in trouble..So, give time to your mind to calm down and take decision after discussing with your parents and well wishers...Even Legend Sachin Tendulkar failed in 10th std...But he knew what his goal was !! Rest in Peace Prajna..

    Just a suggestion - will have to do changes in result system …
    The all the institutes students result should be given/hand over to the respective students parents.
    And respective teachers/lecturers should advise/council to parents before handover the result to them. And should not given/hand over to students.. (even online result should stop).
    Then only it may try stop suicide cases….

    Fully agree. Nowadays relatives want roll number of the student so that they can check the result themselves. Not sure how her relatives conveyed the result to her.

    Kannada dilect script is not easy to write if you have nerve or some other shaky hand syndromes , here exact reason not known . First we must stop glamorising marks , it puts pressure on students who fail to set a mark
