Udupi, Apr 11: The special district court here has found that the guilt of Arun Achary (32) from Perempalli here in raping a minor girl has been proved. It said that the quantum of sentence would be pronounced on Friday.
Arun Achary was accused of approaching a minor girl, who happened to be the daughter of a person well known to him, when she was going to school. He had escorted the girl to a lodge in Manipal after promising to marry the girl. The lodge staff, who became suspicious about Achary's intentions, had refused to give him a room. He then took the girl to another lodge where too he was refused room. He thereafter led her to his home at Permpalli where she was raped.
It is said that the girl suffers from lack of development of mental faculties. Father of the girl had filed complaint about this incident in Manipal police station. The police booked the accused under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Indian Penal Code provisions. The then police inspector Sampath Kumar investigated the case and filed charge sheet.
The special district court which heard the case, examined 30 witnesses. Chief judicial magistrate, C M Joshi, who conducted the hearing, announced that the charges levelled against the accused were proved, through judgment delivered on Wednesday April 10. He also said that the quantum of punishment would be announced on April 12.
Speciala public prosecutor, Vijaya Vasu Poojary had presented the case in the court.
