Dr Manoj Maxim D'Lima, president of Indian Dental Association, Udupi district branch presided over the programme and welcomed the gathering and gave key note address. He spoke about the oral cancer eradication campaign. He told that it is the need of the hour that w dentists have to go to the people and explain the ill effects of tobacco usage. “If we dentists explain about oral cancer directly to people it would be very much effective than putting oral cancer pictures on tobacco products or by video display in movie halls. We see regularly so many cases of oral cancer day by day at our respective dental clinics. We see oral cancer patients die due to lack of knowledge to them or due to untimely oral check-ups. So it is our prime responsibility to eradicate oral cancer either by spreading awareness and oral screening. Any
oral cancer if detected and treated at early stage can be cured most of the times. Only way is to stop the habit of using tobacco.”
