Udupi, Mar 23: “Congress has not asked Shobha Karandlaje’s contribution to Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency. People know what she has done. The party has only reacted to her statement that the district is free from Congress. Congress is always prepared for an open discussion about development schemes during the terms of Congress and BJP. What does the ‘Go back Shobha’ campaign by BJP workers and efforts by BJP leaders not to allow Shobha to contest reflect? Shobha having got an opportunity to contest in between so much opposition has created a feeling of desperation among workers.”
“Congress has given up Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency to JDS as per coalition principles. In the circumstances BJP statement that the district is free from Congress is laughable. Give up the habit of looking into the plate of others when there is elephant in your plate. When both the coalition parties join and campaign for their joint candidate, no party can be free. Only BJP should say why BJP activists and party leaders opposed Shobha’s candidature.”
"Congress party in the state has agreed for 20:8 candidate adjustments. BJP and Shiva Sena in the neighboring Maharashtra have an agreement for 20:20 candidates. Therefore, can it be said that BJP is free in 20 constituencies in Maharashtra? Though Shiva Sena is making statements daily criticizing Mody, BJP’s is attached to Shiva Sena. Does it not reflect BJP’s helplessness?" asked Congress district chief secretary B Narasimha Murthy and district Congress spokesperson Bhasker Rao Kidiyoor in a press release.
