Puttur: Husband who stabbed his bus conductor wife sentenced to 7 years imprisonment

Puttur, Mar 22: The fifth district and sessions court of the taluk sentenced a man, who stabbed his wife, who works as a bus conductor, to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

This incident had occurred in the Subramanya bus stand on March 19, 2014. Prakash Vallapura (36), a resident of Ramnagar in the district of Bijapur is the accused who was convicted by the court.

The convict Prakash was a MESCOM bill reader on contract. He got married to Indira Ryagi, who works as a bus conductor with the Dharmasthala bus depot of KSRTC, in 2013. They lived in a rented house in Ujire. However, after some time, Prakash stopped going to work. On the said date, he stabbed Indira with knife injuring her grievously.

The accused was arrested by Subramanya police and the chargesheet was filed by the then Inspector Mahadeva Shetty.

Judge Shivanna sentenced the convict to one year prison and Rs 4,000 fine under section 498 (A), seven years in prison and Rs 5,000 fine under section 337 and seven years in prison and Rs 10,000 in fine for his offence under section 307.

During the inquiry stage of the case public prosecutor Uday Kumar argued for the prosecution. Now, during the latter part of the case, public prosecutor Harishchandra Udyavar argued in favour of the prosecution.
