Udupi: DCIB unit police intercept lorry, raid godown - seize ten tonne rice

Udupi, Mar 15: DCIB police on the basis of definite clues received by DCIB unit inspector Kiran C, raided rice godown and seized ten tonne rice being transported without any documents near Hiriadka market on Thursday, March 14.

The inspector of Food and Civil Supplies through Udupi tahsildar, seized the lorry. They also confiscated nearly 130 sacks of rice from the godown of Rajesh Nayak near Car Street, Perdoor, 400 empty sacks with FCI Punjab written on them, weighing scale, machine used to stitch the sacks and nearly 50 sacks rice loaded in Bolero vehicle parked outside the godown and the vehicle.

Lorry driver C P Shafik (36) was arrested in this connection. Primary suspect Rajesh Nayak fled the scene. A case is registered at Hiriadka police station.

The operation was conducted on guidance by additional SP Kumarchand and Udupi sub division assistant SP T R Jaishanker on directions by Udupi SP Nisha James.

DCIB unit ASI Ravichandra and staff Suresh, Santhosh Kunder, Chander Shetty, Ramu Hegde, Raghavendra Uppunda, Raj Kumar, Dayananda Prabhu, Shivananda and driver Raghavendra took part in the operation.
