Udupi: Autorickshaw parking issue, tense situation, police intervene

Udupi, Mar 13: The chaos between the autorickshaw owners and drivers with regard to parking permission in the city is continuing even after the introduction of separate colour coding for city and rural autorickshaw. Due to this, a tense situation prevailed in the autorickshaw parking area of the city bus stand on Tuesday March 12 for some time.

The autorickshaws which have Zone 1 (city limit) permits can park their vehicles in any autorickshaw parking lot of the city. Some autorickshaw drivers brought their vehicles to the city bus stand autorickshaw parking space saying that there is court order in this respect also. However, the autorickshaw drivers who had already parked their vehicles in the city bus stand parking lot, objected to this. As many autorickshaws converged at once to the city bus stand, the road was blocked and heated arguments also ensued between the two factions.

Police intervened and asked both the factions to report to the police station and assured that the issue will be discussed with the RTO and amicable solution will be found out soon. At this assurance, the autorickshaw drivers were pacified and the situation is under control for the time being.
