Kundapur, Jan 28: Enmity between students of Bhandarkar College led to a deadly assault in broad daylight on January 28. However, timely intervention of locals saved lives.

It is said that the enmity between Bhandarkar College’s second year BSc student Ganesh, final year BCom student Mithun and second year BBM student Akshay was the cause for the incident.

Ganesh was allegedly assaulted by Akshay and Mithun’s group in the past. Seeking revenge, Ganesh requested help from students of Nada Guddeangadi College.

On Monday, Mithun, Akshay and his friends had come out from the campus during lunch break. Meanwhile, Ganesh and his ten friends who were waiting on bikes in front of Gandhi Maidan, attacked Mithun and Akshay with iron rods.

When Kundapur municipal council member Girish G K tried to stop the fight, they assaulted him and even snatched his car keys. The group has also tried to attack short film actor Rakshit Shetty who was also trying to stop the fight.

The miscreant students fled as local people gathered. It is said that suspect Ganesh had to repeat second year BSc due to lack of attendance.

Mithun has sustained serious injuries on his head, legs and face. Akshay has injuries on his leg. Other students who tried to prevent the fight have also been injured. The injured students are taking treatment in the hospital. The reason for their previous enmity is not known.

A case on charges of snatching car keys, deadly assault on students and attempt to murder are registered in Kundapur police station. Police are searching for suspects.
