Mangaluru, Nov 18: Lourdes Central School, Bejai celebrated Kanakadasa Jayanthi the birth anniversary of Kanakadasa as a commemoration to the great poet, saint, philosopher, composer and musician.
Kanakadasa holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Karnataka, and is still remembered for his Keerthanas and Carnatic music compositions in the Kannada language. Karnataka observes this day as a state holiday each year to pay tribute to this great saint.
The students of classes 5 to 9 presented a beautiful programme during the morning assembly. They highlighted the values and teachings of Kanakadasa.
Keerthanas devotional song and songs with social message was performed by the students of class 5.
A floral tribute was offered to the portrait of the Kanakadasa by the principal Fr Johnson L Sequeira, vice principal Belita Mascarenhas, teachers and students. Principal in his message asked the students to inculcate the values of Kanakadasa in their daily life. The programme concluded with the school anthem.
