Mangaluru, Jan 14: St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru, with a view to develop competencies in students, inaugurated the programme of making their 32 faculty into facilitators in Human Resource Development by organizing a facilitator certification in HRD course through college for Leadership and HRD (CLHRD), Mangaluru.
Select faculty are currently undergoing a one semester course to certify themselves as facilitators in Human Resource Development. Its contact programme of 10 days, an intense event from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM every day, from January 12 to January 21, was inaugurated by Dr Karisiddappa, the vice-chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi on January 12 where Dr C V Raghuveer, former vice-chancellor, Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Kolar, presided over.
Dr Karisiddappa, while appreciating the initiative of the college, stressed on the need for developing competencies in students which could be done beyond the classroom lectures. He told the participants that they should involve themselves in action research with the assistance of students to develop them. He was of the opinion that personality development of students and competency development should go together.
Dr C V Raghuveer advised the participants to develop their own competencies so that they will be able to assist the students in developing their personal effectiveness and leader effectiveness. He gave plenty of examples from his own experiencesin the field of medical education.
Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of St Joseph Engineering College, Fr Rohith D’Costa, assistant director and Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of St Joseph Engineering College, were also present on the occasion.
