Bengaluru, Jan 3: Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde has once again kicked off a row on the day of entry of two women devotees into Sabarimala temple saying it was 'daylight rape of Hindus'.
Reacting to women entering the temple, Hegde said, "Kerala government has totally failed. I would like to say that it is totally daylight rape of Hindus."
He further said that without hurting the faith of the masses, the government should have managed law and order diplomatically.
However, the BJP minister has been receiving a lot of backlash for his statement comparing women's entry to daylight rape. Netizens have slammed the minister for making controversial statements whenever he opens his mouth.
One of the netizens commented that Hegde was a lose tongue of the BJP. "Rape of Hindu people? Is there a single person in the BJP who is sane? He asked.
Another person commented, "When an 8-year-old was raped and killed inside a temple, nothing happened to the faith of BJP."
Another person opined that the minister was adding more fuel on the already volatile situation in Kerala. "BJP, PMO do take stock of the situation in Kerala, before more innocent Hindu lives are lost," he urged.
On Wednesday, Janaury 2 two women, in their forties entered the Lord Ayyappa temple. Hours after their entry, the right-wings and the BJP protested. Clashes were also reported with police resorting to tear gas bombs and water cannons to disperse protesters.
