Mangaluru: Manipal School organizes spirited Sports Day

Mangaluru, Dec 22: Manipal School offers high quality co-education to students from Preprimary to Grade X. The annual Sports Day of Manipal School was held on December 20 at Marena Sports Complex, Attavar, here. The event was conducted in two sessions. In the morning for Grades 5-10 and in the afternoon for Nursery to Grade 4.

The chief guest for the morning session Manju M R, a renowned athlete urged the children to play all games and to train in one particular sport. The Principal Anuradha Shivaram presented the school annual report for the academic year 2017-18. Dr Dilip G Naik, dean Manipal College of Dental Sciences and Dr Anand Venugopal, medical superintendent, KMC Attavar spoke about how Manipal Academy of Higher Education had envisaged that the sharing of facilities at Marena Sports Complex would help the students to improve their sporting skills. Arun Raj Rodrigues – president PTA, Anupam Anurag Kerketta, senior manager, School Management Pearson Schools India were also present.

The theme for this year’s Sports Day was 'Urjaa' –which means energy that is omnipresent and flows limitlessly. The mascot for the event was 'Ojas' – representing strength, health and mental wellness. The day saw lively and energetic drills done by the student using props such as dumb bells, lezims. There were numerous sports events conducted for the students and the parents too. The vibrant and witty student comperes Naethan Pais and Fayeza Maimuna engaged the audience with information about the performances.

Krish Iyengar, business head, EduSports India was the chief guest for the afternoon session. He spoke about the importance of playing and learning that happens on the play field. This was followed by energetic performances by the little ones using props such as flags, hoops and scarves. The student comperes Shaziya Zalaika and Armaash Akram Sheikh regaled the audience with details of the performances.

The programme ended with lowering of the school flag which was then handed over by the PE teacher Parvathi Bhandary to the principal for safekeeping until the next Sports Day.
