Mangaluru Nov 30: SDM Law College Student Union staged protest at their college premises on Friday, November 30, against seven persons who allegedly gang raped a woman at Thota Bengre.
Addressing the protestors, law student Mufeeda said,” We condemn the heinous crime that took place on November 18, where seven men gang raped a woman at Thota Bengre. Government and police need to take action against the culprits so that such incidents are not repeated in Mangaluru. It is better if the punishment like in Arab countries is implemented in this country,”
She also said,” Today women are not feeling safe. If we go out, we are not sure that we will come back home safe. Strict laws need to be enforced against the rape. We will fight against this until justice is done,”
Student union leader Jithin said, “These cruel seven men dared to touch a woman and gang raped in the presence of her male friend. We demand stern action against the culprits and also to provide police protection at Thota Bengre so that there will be no trouble for the tourists. CCTV cameras should also be installed at the sensitive places,”
Later SDM Law College Student Union submitted memorandum to police commissioner T R Suresh demanding stringent action against the culprits.
The students also informed that exams are going on at SDM and they will wear black bands on their arms and write the exams.
