Puttur: Mortal remains of Dalit man left on roadside - One arrested

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (MS)

Puttur, Nov 19: A case under the Prevention of Atrocities against Dalits Act has been registered against three individuals for allegedly abandoning the mortal remains of Shivappa, a resident of Keremoole, on the roadside in front of his house. Shivappa, who worked as an assistant mason, was reportedly brought home in a pickup truck.

The case was filed based on a complaint by Shashi Keremoole, the son-in-law of the deceased.

On the morning of November 16, Henry Tauro, the owner of Tauro Wood Industries, had taken Shivappa for daily wage labour. Later, Shivappa was brought back in a pickup truck by Henry Tauro, Stany (a mason), and two others. His body was placed on wooden logs and left on the roadside near his house. When Shivappa's wife and daughter tried to speak to him, he was unresponsive. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The police have registered a case against Henry Tauro, Stany, and another individual under the Prevention of Atrocities against Dalits Act. One person has been arrested so far, following threats of protest by Dalit organizations if the suspects were not apprehended by Monday evening.

Cases against Tauro just because the deceased was a dalit ? If somebody from the general category had died, there won't be any protest!

One has to understand the sequence of the entire incident. This deceased person is a assistant mason. After the work, he has travelled in the pick up along with the owner of the wood industries with 2 others. Definitely, when the deceased was in the pickup, he will be alive. If he was dead, then any sensible person would have called the police. During travel, from the place of work till his home, is these workers have visited any alcohol shop or consumed alcohol, should be investigated because after the heavy work, usually if there is no rest to the body, and immediately consumption of alcohol may lead to heart problem. Something fishy with the complainant. Definitely the deceased when got down from the pickup, might be in his senses. Post mortem report will give a true picture.

What a pity. Which World we are still living in. If he was not willing to take him to a hospital, he would have called his family to take care. Pathetic.
