Hebri, Nov 19: In a significant breakthrough, Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) personnel have killed noted Naxal leader Vikram Gowda during an encounter at Kabbinale in Hebri taluk. The incident marks the first reported encounter in Udupi district in over 13 years.

The encounter occurred during a combing operation conducted by the ANF based on strong intelligence about naxal activity in the region. According to sources, a group of five naxal operatives were spotted by the ANF team during the operation. The naxal opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the ANF, leading to the death of Vikram Gowda. The remaining naxal members reportedly fled into the dense forest.

Sources revealed that the naxal team had visited Kabbinale village late Monday night to procure essential supplies when the encounter took place. The ANF had intensified combing operations in the area following credible information regarding naxal movements.

Vikram Gowda, a native of Kabbinale, was a commander of the Netravati unit of the naxal movement. His involvement in the naxal operations had made him a key target for law enforcement agencies.

The last naxal encounter in Udupi district was reported 13 years ago in Eedu village of Karkala taluk. The incident is seen as a significant step in curbing naxal activities in the region. Further details and updates are awaited as the search for the remaining naxals continues.
