Mangaluru, Nov 28: Condemning the Thota Bengre incident, where a woman was gang raped by seven men on November 18, the District Youth Congress has demanded stringent action against the culprits.
Addressing media here on Wednesday, November 28, District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai said, "We demand stern action against all the culprits. The police have managed to nab four. It is unfortunate that such an incident took place and it is a black spot to the district which is known as an education hub and known for its culture and tradition.”
Rai demanded that the lawyer association should not fight case in favour of the accused.
He further highlighted that the police station at Panambur is far from Tannirbhavi or Thota Bengre and it takes time for the police to reach to the spot. “It is necessary to have a police outpost at Thota Bengre. In this regard, police have sent proposal to install an outpost at Thota Bengre and also urged district-in-charge minister U T Khader and Home Minister to respond immediately on this demand,” Rai said.
"We also demand government to give necessary compensation and provide provisions for the victim through the government and make sure stern action will be taken against the culprits,” Mithun Rai added.
