Belagavi, Nov 17: “I have handled all the responsibilities handed over to me by the party high command so far. I am prepared to shoulder the responsibilities of chief minister also if I am given the position,” said deputy chief minister G Parameshwar.
Speaking to news reporters in the city, he said that he has performed to the best of his ability in the responsibilities handed over to him by the high command. “I have worked as KPCC president for eight years and have united the party in two elections. Our coalition government is formed this time and I have been given the position of deputy chief minister. I will remain quiet if no responsibility is given to me in the future. Giving or not giving work is left to them,” he said.
The statement by DCM Parameshwar when everything is going on smoothly in the coalition government has given rise to speculations. There is talk in the political circles that he has spoken for the position of chief minister if there are changes in coalition government.

“The position of chief minister is not permanent for anybody. There are several people in the state to perform in the position. Parameshwar also is an able leader. Let us not misunderstand his statement at this juncture,” chief minister H D Kumaraswamy told reporters in Davangere.
The chief minister said that there is nothing wrong in what DCM Parameshwar said. “Several governments have ruled after the country got independence. Several people have become chief ministers. Parameshwar has only spoken that he too will perform as the chief minister if he gets an opportunity,” he said.
Expressing the opinion about the visit of draught study team of the centre to the state, he said that already more than 100 taluks are announced as drought affected. An appeal is submitted to the union government for sixteen thousand crores for drought relief measures. An appeal was submitted to the centre for flood relief three months ago but not even paisa is received. The state government has compensated Rs 250 crores for it,” he slammed.
