Udupi, Nov 13: The prestigious Lawrencian State Level Volleyball Tournament 2018 will be held at Moodubelle on November 17 from 8 pm till the morning of November 18 at St Lawrence PU College Grounds.
This announcement was made by Fr Lawrence Cutinha, assistant parish Priest of St Lawrence Church, Moodubelle who is the convener of this State Level Volleyball Tournament at a press conference held at the Udupi Press Club on Tuesday, November 13.
In the press release, Fr Lawrence Cutinha said that state level volleyball teams such as Alva’s Moodubidri, Mysore University, Chandan Chetan of Kundapur, Sameer Team, Sarfaraz Stadium Team, Mangalore Friends, Chinna Team, Shivamogga Mixed Team, Kalil Team and Kolar Team will participate in this state level volleyball tournament. “More than 2,000 spectators are expected to witness this tournament. This will be an opportunity to bring together the youth and sports lovers, especially volleyball enthusiasts for this historic event,” he said.
“The winners of this state level volleyball tournament will receive the trophy and Rs 50,000 cash prize; first runners-up will get a trophy and Rs 30,000 cash prize and second runners up Rs 20,000 cash prize and a trophy. Besides, five individual prizes will be awarded to outstanding players.
"The Lawrencian State Level Volleyball Tournament will be inaugurated at 7.30 pm on November 17. Retired naval officer, Commodore Jerome Castelino (VSM), Fr Mahesh D’Souza, principal of Don Bosco CBSE High School, Shirva, Joyline Lobo, international triple jump athlete and Raison Benette Rebello, international volleyball player will be the guests of honour during the inauguration of the tournament," he added.
Fr Lawrence Cutinha further stated that all the preparations for this mega event are in progress under the supervision of Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Elias D’Souza, coordinator of the tournament and various tournament committees namely sponsorship and advertisement under the chairmanship of Vincent Fernandes; sports and games committee under Denis Martis, media and publicity under Victor D’Souza and logistics and ground under Joseph Martis.
