Doha, Sep 20: Engineers Day was recently celebrated by Karnataka Sangha Qatar to commemorate the 158th birthday of Bharata Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya which was year of Engineers Day at ICC, Doha on September 15.
The function began with the lighting of the lamp and paying floral tributes to the portrait of Sir Visvesvaraya. Rashmi Rao, then introduced the exhaustive life story of the legend, Sir M Visvesvaraya.
The annual ‘Aabhiyantarashree Award-2018’ were bestowed on V S Mannangi, working for Al Muftah Contracting Company as a division manager and Seenu Pillai working for ASTAD as a senior mechanical engineer for their phenomenal contribution, performance and service in their work fields. Addressing the function, Mannangi spoke his wide experience in the general and Qatar in particular. He told that Indian Engineers are in thousands of numbers in Qatar and known for their professional skills. Another awardee, Seenu Pillai also shared his path of growth in ASTAD and thanked his colleagues of different nationalities for the success of his career.
Presiding over the function as chief guest, ICC president, Milan Arun and guest of honour engineer Ahmed Jassim Al Jolo, former chairman of Qatar Society of Engineers and president for Federation of Arab Engineers expressed the need and desire to conduct functions of legendary personalities to keep and imbibe ethics, work culture and discipline among the younger generations.
In this year Engineers’ Day celebrations, The sangha introduced for the first time, display of engineering models by KSQ budding engineers to make the programme special so that the event will also be an opportunity for Sangha students to display their technical talent.
Models can be based on following topics:
a) Green building (Energy conservation methods) or Eco-friendly buildings
b) Robotics
c) Dams and Bridges
d) Agricultural projects using advanced technologies
e) Reverse Engineering - creating best out of waste
Venkata Rao, KSQ president, in his welcome address also emphasized that only those who contribute to the society, community and work selfless to build the nation can become icons and legends, who leave legacy behind them for centuries.
Sandeep Reddy, KSQ's general secretary, rendered the vote of thanks.
