Udupi, Sep 6: District level Teachers’ Day celebration committee organised district level Teachers’ Day - 2018 in collaboration with G Shankar Family Trust Udupi at Shyamili hall Ambalpady here on Wednesday, September 5.
Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat inaugurated the programme.
Dr G Shankar said, “Teachers must be respected in the society. They imparting education and provide culture for children. It is our duty too.”
Quoting a Kannada film that was released recently, he said, “There is fact shown in the film. I will provide financial support for that government Kannada medium school in Kasargod.”
Talking on the issue of salary, “There are many teachers who have not received salaries since six months.” He urged MLA Raghupati Bhat to take some necessary measures by negotiating with the concerned department. Let the government announce holiday for teachers on Teachers’ Day at least. Let the government turn its attention on paying salaries for teachers.”
Zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu addressing the occasion said, “People in India respect teachers. Teachers occupy a prominent place in students’ lives after parents. They play an important role in building our nation and teachers’ contribution is more in the development of a nation.
“Today, the number of teachers joining government schools, is becoming less. Children get more culture and custom from Gurukul system. Government schools must be preserved,” he said.
The committee felicitated ten teachers with ‘district teacher award’.
Retired school teachers were also felicitated by the committee for their dedicated service.
Many other awards for best teacher of non-aided schools, best achieved teachers, and best achieved schools were honoured on the occasion.
Shivanand Kapashi, zilla panchayat CEO, Sheela K Shetty, vice president, zilla panchayat, Geethanjali Suvarna, zilla panchayat member, Lokeshappa, BEO, Dinakar Shetty, president, High school association, Kiran Hegde, Prakash, Mangala Shetty, Nagesh, and others were present.
