Bengaluru, Sep 2: Eight persons who attacked officials of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and workers who were removing flexes from Ramamurthy Nagar here, have been handed two years jail term each and Rs 5,000 fine by the 10th additional chief metropolitan magistrate's court here. The judgement was delivered within 29 days of the crime.
Under strict orders passed by the high court chief justice, Dinesh Maheshwari, the BBMP staff were removing flexes. Those who have been sentenced are Santosh Reddy, K Sharavana, Kamal Nathan, Edward Williams, Rajendran, Soorya, Simpson and Mallikarjun, residing at Uday Nagar and nearby areas. They were accused of obstructing BBMP officials from discharging duties of removing flexes near the tin factory. A case against them was filed in Ramamurthy Nagar police station on August 2 and the police had filed charge sheet on August 8, within six days.
It is said that the judgement could be delivered quickly as the accused confessed to their wrongs. Judge of the court, Nagesh Kumar, delivered the judgement on Friday August 31. Belandar, public prosecutor, represented the prosecution in the case.
