Mangaluru, Sep 1: A training camp on photography was held by Kannada sangha and the department of journalism of St Agnes college (autonomous) at its premises today. Photojournalist Ravi Posavanege inaugurated the camp.

He said that photography is writing with light. “If we use our imagination and write it beautifully it becomes an art. Photography was an expensive hobby in the past. Now that cameras are installed in the smartphone, it can be reached by all. Anybody can be a photographer now, but everybody cannot achieve excellence in it.”

“Photography has no obligation of language. Therefore, it is a language that can be understood by all. Photographic pictures are valuable documents that reveal history. It is a storeroom of memories. If we develop enthusiasm in it and develop it as a hobby, it gives us joy. It can also be accepted as an occupation if we grow artistic sense in it,” he said.

Sr Dr M Jesvina A C, principal of the college who chaired the programme said that art of photography can be propitiated by dedication and concentration. “Photography teaches us patience. We feel that clicking pictures by mobile phones is easy, but it is not so. Selfy consists of only selfishness. May the camp inspire us to click artistic pictures of nature,” she said.

Chief guest, photographer Sudhaker Shenoy wished the camp well. Kannada sangha convener Dr Sampoornananda Balkur welcomed the gathering. Head of the department of journalism, Sandhya C D'Souza thanked everyone. Gratian D'Cunha compered the programme.
