Hassan: Case against BJP MLA for taking away people from police custody

Hassan, Aug 31: A first information was registered against local BJP MLA, Preetham J Gowda, in the town police station here on Wednesday August 29. He has been accused of taking away three persons from the police station who were taken there in connection with the complaint about violation of election code of conduct. The MLA has been accused of obstructing police personnel from discharging their duties.

It is gathered that BJP candidate in the 8th municipal ward here, Venu, and two others, were allegedly distributing liquor to voters on Wednesday, and a JD(S) activist, Praveen, had complained to the police about this illegal activity. Town police station assistant sub-inspector, R Satyanarayana, and constable, Chidanand, visited the spot and found that Venu and two of his accomplices were holding 9 liquor bottles of 180 ml each in their hands. Therefore, the three were accompanied to the police station for violating election code of conduct,

When the police were in the process of registering case against the three persons, Pretham arrived at the police station at about 11.45 pm along with a crowd of 15 to 20 persons, told the police not to register the case, and took away the three arrested persons, it is said. On the basis of complaint made by Satyanarayana, a case was registered against the MLA.
